BalanceBar 1.0 for PayPal

October 17th, 2010 by Richard Felix

Just the other day, I decided that I wanted to be able to have my current PayPal balance in the menu bar of my Mac. I searched but couldn’t find one program that did what I wanted, so I wrote it, and we’re releasing it today for free. It’s called BalanceBar, and it requires a PayPal Business or Premier account with valid API credentials.

You can download it at the BalanceBar website.

How to get your Paypal API Credentials

You must have a PayPal Business or Premier account to create a signature.

To create an API signature:

1. Log into PayPal, then click Profile under My Account.

2. Click Request API Credentials.

3. Under PayPal API, click Set up PayPal API credentials and permissions.

4. Under Option 2, you should see an option to Request API credentials to create your own API username and password, do that and you should have all of the information that you need to configure BalanceBar. Copy the API Username, API Password and Signature and paste them into the corresponding blanks in the preference section of BalanceBar. If you already have an API Username, Password and Signature on that page, you can just use those, no need to generate more.

5. Click Done to complete the process.

I don’t know if these methods are accurate anymore, I don’t see API Access on the Profile page at all.

    Please help!
