Quiet Push Notifications on the iPhone

October 28th, 2010 by Richard Felix

Last night I came to the realization that Push Notifications on the iPhone don’t actually have to contain messages. You can send information straight to the phone without popping up a notification that the user needs to close.

I am using this capability in Dispatch as of last night so that whenever a request is closed from either the iPhone or the web, the badge in the iPhone app automatically updates with the correct number of open requests. That’s super cool, and very useful.
